Part of the advice that I received from our art school private college counselor, Jeanette Nyberg of Tiny Rotten Peanuts blog, is to win art competitions as a way of building your art portfolio. Of course, the first step is finding art competitions to enter (and have enough notice so as not to miss the submission deadline).
Thank you to Jeanette again for this awesome link: 50+ Awesome Art Competitions for High School Students.

National Book Festival Bookmark Competition
My daugher’s friend won this competition for the state of Massachusetts when she was in 3rd grade. Her prize included meeting the governor of Massachusetts, a giant blow up book mark of her winning design and the pleasure of knowing her bookmark was distributed free to students throughout the state!
Doodle 4 Google is our favorite time of the year – it’s when we get to see all the amazing creativity of kids around the country come to life. For our 8th annual US competition, we’re holding the fun to the fall. So stay tuned and don’t forget to check back here in the beginning of the next school year. September 2015
