It could be much, much worse.

既然要學(xué)習(xí)語(yǔ)法,首先我們得知道,語(yǔ)法到底是什么玩意兒?那么,想要回答這個(gè)問(wèn)題,我們得先理清楚,語(yǔ)言到底是什么玩意兒?

At it’s very basic, language is just a bunch of sounds, put together in a specific order. The goal of a language is to communicate.

簡(jiǎn)單地說(shuō),語(yǔ)言只是一團(tuán)有秩序的聲音,而語(yǔ)言的目的,就是為了溝通。

Actually, a language is a lot like a society. The sounds are the people. People like to do crazy things. They like to dance. They like to party. They like to get drunk and do wild things.

What’s to stop people from going crazy and hurting each other? The law. The law stops us from stealing from people or hurting one another. And who enforces the law? The police.

其實(shí),語(yǔ)言這個(gè)東西,很像是一個(gè)社會(huì)。聲音就是這個(gè)社會(huì)中的人,人們很愛(ài)玩:愛(ài)跳舞、愛(ài)去party嗨、愛(ài)喝酒。那么,既然聲音這么亂,誰(shuí)會(huì)維護(hù)法律秩序呢?警察。

Grammar is a lot like the language police. Grammar makes sure that the sounds stay in order. It forces the sounds to behave in a responsible manner, so everyone can understand what is being said, and communication happens. Without grammar, there would be linguistic anarchy.

那么語(yǔ)法,也就像語(yǔ)言中的警察一樣。語(yǔ)法會(huì)保證這團(tuán)聲音有秩序地玩。這樣大家才能溝通起來(lái)。如果沒(méi)有語(yǔ)法,那么結(jié)果就是語(yǔ)言混亂。

Every time you learn a new piece of grammar, you are helping society (your English) become a more orderly place. To put it another way, imagine that your English is a messy room. Every new grammar you learn cleans up the room a little bit.

每次你學(xué)會(huì)一個(gè)語(yǔ)法,你就是在給你的英語(yǔ)社會(huì)執(zhí)行法律,讓你的英語(yǔ)變得更加秩序。換一個(gè)比喻來(lái)講,若你的英語(yǔ)是一間亂七八糟的房間,那么每次學(xué)語(yǔ)法,就是給這個(gè)房間打掃衛(wèi)生。

Now that we understand what grammar is, the question comes: how do we learn it?

現(xiàn)在知道語(yǔ)法是什么玩意兒,那么問(wèn)題來(lái)了,如何學(xué)會(huì)語(yǔ)法?

We have to train it, of course! For a policeman to be effective at his job, he needs to be trained. For you to speak with correct grammar, you need to train it.

當(dāng)然,我們要訓(xùn)練它!有戰(zhàn)斗力的警察,是訓(xùn)練出來(lái)的。有秩序的英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)法,也是訓(xùn)練出來(lái)的。

Today I’m going to give you five tips on how to train your grammar. Then at the end, I’ll give you a list of the grammar I recommend you learn first. So let’s go!

今天我會(huì)告訴你5個(gè)方法,讓你的英語(yǔ)學(xué)習(xí)變得更有效。最后,我會(huì)推薦一些語(yǔ)法給你學(xué)習(xí)。好的,那我們開(kāi)始學(xué)習(xí)語(yǔ)法吧!

1、Learn it one piece at a time

一次只學(xué)一個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)

Grammar isn’t rice. You can’t eat a bowl of it and digest it quickly. It’s like a really meaty chicken foot. You just sit there gnawing and gnawing and gnawing, until you’ve picked all the meat off.

語(yǔ)法并不像米飯,能一口吞下。語(yǔ)法更像是一個(gè)多肉的雞爪,要一直啃一直啃,啃到肉都啃完了。

The best way to learn grammar is to pick a piece you want to master, and only focus on practicing that piece of grammar until you have mastered it. Then move onto the next piece.

想要學(xué)好語(yǔ)法,最好的方法是:選擇一個(gè)你想要掌握的語(yǔ)法點(diǎn),花一周的時(shí)間只練這個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn),直到你掌握它,才開(kāi)始練下一個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)。

For example, maybe we want to master plurals in English. We would first learn how to use “s” at the end of nouns. Then we would learn about countable and uncountable nouns.

譬如說(shuō),我們想要掌握英語(yǔ)的復(fù)數(shù)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)。我們先花一周學(xué)會(huì)在名詞后面加s,然后再花一周練可數(shù)和不可數(shù)的名詞。

2、Compare with your mother language

和中文語(yǔ)法進(jìn)行比較

The human brain loves comparing and contrasting. A great way to master grammar is by comparing its usage in English with Chinese. Does this grammar exist in Chinese? If so, is it used in the exact same way, or is it different?

人類的大腦喜歡進(jìn)行比較。我們可以通過(guò)對(duì)比英語(yǔ)和中文的語(yǔ)法,鞏固新的語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)。每次遇到新的語(yǔ)法,可以問(wèn)自己下面的問(wèn)題:中文有沒(méi)有這個(gè)語(yǔ)法?如果有,用法一樣嗎?有哪些區(qū)別?

By discovering these exceptions, you make it easier for your brain to remember and use the grammar when you need it.

通過(guò)發(fā)現(xiàn)這些區(qū)別和例外,你可以使大腦更容易記住和運(yùn)用新的語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)。

You’ll also become familiar with words and concepts related to language learning you didn’t know before, which will make you a stronger language learner.

此外,你會(huì)順便了解語(yǔ)言學(xué)的一些詞匯和概念,瞬間就能變成更強(qiáng)的語(yǔ)言學(xué)習(xí)者。

In the example about plurals above, if we compared with Chinese, we would realize that Chinese doesn’t typically use plural nouns, so when we are speaking English, we need to pay extra attention to ensure we don’t make mistakes.

在上面的例子里,如果我們拿英語(yǔ)的復(fù)數(shù)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)跟中文對(duì)比,我們會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)中文很少用復(fù)數(shù),所以我們講英語(yǔ)的時(shí)候,會(huì)更關(guān)注到這一點(diǎn)。

3、Use it whenever you can

專注訓(xùn)練一個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)

Choose one piece of grammar to practice each week, and use every opportunity you can to practice that grammar. Practice it in the shower. Practice it on the bus. Practice it with your language partner.

每周選一個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)練習(xí),隨時(shí)隨刻練習(xí)這個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn)。在洗澡?練習(xí)。坐公交車?練習(xí)。跟朋友逛街?練習(xí)??!

You might say, one piece of grammar per week? That’s too slow, I want to learn faster. Actually, one piece of grammar per week is extremely fast. If you learned one new grammar per week for the next 6 months, you would completely master all English grammar.

你可能會(huì)說(shuō),一周才學(xué)一個(gè)點(diǎn)?這樣太慢,我想要快速學(xué)習(xí)。其實(shí),一周一個(gè)點(diǎn)的節(jié)奏已經(jīng)算是非??炝?。如果你每周掌握一個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn),6個(gè)月后你就會(huì)徹底掌握英語(yǔ)的語(yǔ)法。

4、Be patient

要有足夠的耐心

It takes time for our brain to adapt to new knowledge. Just knowing the grammar rule isn’t enough. You have to be able to apply it in a variety of situations, and to do this, you need to spend time practicing.

我們的大腦吸收和適應(yīng)新的信息,需要時(shí)間。認(rèn)識(shí)或者了解語(yǔ)法不夠,你得學(xué)會(huì)在不同的語(yǔ)境里,運(yùn)用這個(gè)語(yǔ)法。學(xué)會(huì)運(yùn)用需要你花時(shí)間練習(xí)。

Don’t worry if it’s taking you longer than you expected to master a piece of grammar. Practice it for a little, and then take a break and come back to it later. If that still doesn’t work, try activating a different part of your brain. Write a song using the grammar, or create a story about it.

如果你發(fā)現(xiàn)你花了很多時(shí)間學(xué)一個(gè)語(yǔ)法點(diǎn),但是還沒(méi)有掌握,沒(méi)關(guān)系!這個(gè)很正常!繼續(xù)練習(xí),然后休息一下,再繼續(xù)練習(xí)。如果這樣還不行,你可以試試用大腦另一個(gè)部分。用這個(gè)語(yǔ)法寫一首歌,或者一個(gè)故事。

As long as you continue practicing, you will eventually get it. How do you know when you’ve mastered it?

只要你繼續(xù)練習(xí),你終究會(huì)掌握。掌握語(yǔ)法是什么樣的感覺(jué)呢?

5、Keep studying until you reach an “aha” moment

不斷學(xué)習(xí),直到你掌握它為止

You’ll know once you mastered the grammar. You will feel confident using it, and you’ll wonder how you ever spoke this language without it. Good grammar is sexy, so you’ll want to show it off to everyone.

當(dāng)你掌握語(yǔ)法的時(shí)候,你將會(huì)知道。你將會(huì)覺(jué)得自己用這個(gè)語(yǔ)法,變得更加自信。你會(huì)驚奇地想,我之前怎么沒(méi)掌握啊?

Although many people may think learning grammar is dull, to come back to the analogies earlier, learning grammar is like cleaning your room. It’s just something you have to do, and you feel great once you’ve done it.

雖然很多人覺(jué)得學(xué)習(xí)語(yǔ)法無(wú)聊無(wú)趣,但是回答前面的比喻,學(xué)語(yǔ)法就像打掃房間一樣。你必須這么做,而且做完會(huì)很有成就感。

So get out there and start learning some grammar!

所以現(xiàn)在,不要糾結(jié),開(kāi)始好好學(xué)習(xí)語(yǔ)法!

Here is a list of some English grammar that I recommend you master
