荷屬東印度（荷蘭語：Nederlands(ch)-Indi?；印尼語：Hindia Belanda）是指1800年至1949年荷蘭人所統(tǒng)治的印度尼西亞。1596年，荷蘭人霍特曼率領(lǐng)的一支荷蘭船隊(duì)到達(dá)爪哇島的萬丹。1603年，荷蘭在爪哇建商站；1605年，征服盛產(chǎn)香料的馬魯古群島中的安汶島、帝利島。1619年，攻占爪哇島上的雅加達(dá)，命名巴達(dá)維亞，作為荷蘭東印度公司在東方的總部。在荷蘭人到來之前，葡萄牙人已經(jīng)在印尼地區(qū)建立了一些商站。之后，英國人也登陸印尼，建立殖民地。而荷蘭變成了這些歐洲國家里面占領(lǐng)最多領(lǐng)土的國家。荷蘭最初通過荷蘭東印度公司對這些地區(qū)實(shí)行殖民統(tǒng)治。1799年東印度公司解散后殖民地被荷蘭政府接管，史稱荷屬東印度。

荷蘭人在印尼的擴(kuò)張四步曲：1.紅色區(qū)：1605-1782年占領(lǐng)；2.橘色：18世紀(jì)末-1828年占領(lǐng)；3.黃色：1862年之前占領(lǐng)；4.深綠：1920年之前占領(lǐng)
第一次世界大戰(zhàn)結(jié)束后，當(dāng)?shù)厝碎_始爭取自治。到了第二次世界大戰(zhàn)，當(dāng)荷蘭本土被納粹德國完全占領(lǐng)后，荷蘭政府宣布終止與當(dāng)時(shí)最大貿(mào)易伙伴日本的貿(mào)易。1941年12月8日太平洋戰(zhàn)爭爆發(fā)，1942年1月日本入侵荷屬東印度，很快印尼就被日軍攻占，其間日本為了在當(dāng)?shù)亟⒖苷?quán)而軍事訓(xùn)練青年、煽動(dòng)印尼民族主義等行為令印尼日后更易獨(dú)立。日本二戰(zhàn)投降的消息傳到印尼之后，蘇加諾立即在之后一日發(fā)表印尼獨(dú)立宣言，有部分日軍士兵留下協(xié)助印尼人。之后在短短五日間，印尼全國都宣告脫離荷蘭政府的管治，荷蘭欲奪回殖民地，雙方展開三年多的印荷戰(zhàn)爭。有日軍兩千多人改名換姓，偽裝為當(dāng)?shù)厝?，他們幫助印尼?xùn)練士兵與荷蘭作戰(zhàn)，又聯(lián)合國向荷蘭施壓的緣故，印尼在戰(zhàn)爭中占了上風(fēng)。最終荷蘭當(dāng)局在1949年與印尼簽署圓桌會(huì)議協(xié)定（英語：Dutch–Indonesian Round Table Conference），宣布放棄對印尼的管治權(quán)，使印尼得以正式獨(dú)立，蘇加諾當(dāng)選為印尼第一任總統(tǒng)。
印度（Indies）一詞源自拉丁語Indus，意義相同。印尼群島被稱為東印度，與加勒比海的荷屬領(lǐng)地相區(qū)分。聯(lián)合東印度公司在1620年的文獻(xiàn)中已經(jīng)開始使用該詞。
今日的印尼群島本分為諸個(gè)鄰海與內(nèi)陸城邦。從1595年起，荷蘭人開始到東南亞收購香料，利潤可達(dá)四倍以上，而在市場競爭日趨激烈的情況下，荷蘭王國政府將這些商人統(tǒng)一納入旗下荷蘭聯(lián)合東印度公司內(nèi)。東印度公司被授權(quán)對外宣布戰(zhàn)爭、修筑城壘并簽訂條約。在爪哇島開埠貿(mào)易不久，東印度公司就將巴達(dá)維亞設(shè)為首府，成為公司在亞洲貿(mào)易的樞紐。在維護(hù)對豆蔻、丁香等本地香料的市場壟斷時(shí)，公司還引進(jìn)了可可豆、茶葉、煙草、橡膠、鴉片等非原生經(jīng)濟(jì)作物。在日益龐大的戰(zhàn)爭經(jīng)費(fèi)和嚴(yán)重的貪污情況的影響下，聯(lián)合東印度公司的資金大幅萎縮，最后在1800年1月1日宣布破產(chǎn)，其產(chǎn)業(yè)由荷蘭政府直接接收。當(dāng)時(shí)領(lǐng)土疆域包括爪哇島周圍、蘇門答臘島部分、馬魯古島及萬鴉老、望加錫等海港。
