There’s no denying that going to college can get pretty expensive, not only in money but also in time. Firstly, there is the initial debt that comes from paying for tuition and accommodation, and then there’s the time we lose having to work to pay it back. Going to university is a huge sacrifice, the question is, is it worth it?毫無疑問，上大學(xué)既昂貴又費(fèi)時。首先你就得支付學(xué)費(fèi)和住宿費(fèi)。另外，我們耗費(fèi)了時間，其中的機(jī)會成本只有等我們工作后了才能賺回來。上大學(xué)要做不小的犧牲，而問題就在于，上大學(xué)值得這樣的犧牲嗎？
The answer, I think, is yes, if you possess what is one of the most important ingredients in student success – Real Passion, with capitals.我的答案是肯定的。前提是你要對大學(xué)生活充滿激情，這也是成功學(xué)生最重要的要素之一。當(dāng)然你還得有錢。
Real Passion is magical. It creates motivation, determination and perseverance. It gets you up in the morning, it energizes your day and it pushes you to the best of your ability.激情是一種神奇的東西，它給人予動力，決心和毅力。它使你一早醒來便能翻身而起，使你一天都充滿活力，也使你能夠最大限度的發(fā)揮自己。
In an ideal world, everyone would love the subject they’re studying. There may or may not be other reasons for choosing it, but the main reason is that they want to learn. Now, this may seem obvious but up until now, I’ve met too many people that have forgotten the reason why they came to university. They spend too many nights out, they skip lectures and cram in all the work in at the last minute. They’ve forgotten their purpose, which is very sad, especially when I see it happening to my friends, the people that I have really come to care about. Of course, I myself am not perfect, and every now and again I have a lazy night in when I don’t do a shred of work but eventually, I find my way back on track by finding my Real Passion.來談?wù)劥髮W(xué)學(xué)習(xí)吧，每個人都喜歡自己所學(xué)的學(xué)科，僅僅是因?yàn)樗麄兙褪窍雽W(xué)，大家都知道這無疑是最好的情況。但到目前為止，我遇到過很多人他們都忘記了自己來大學(xué)上學(xué)的原因。他們在外出過夜、逃課、臨時抱佛腳上面花費(fèi)了非常多的時間，這很可悲，因?yàn)樗麄兺浟俗约簛泶髮W(xué)的目的。而當(dāng)這些事情發(fā)生在我的朋友，以及那些我真正關(guān)心的人身上的時候，我覺得更加傷心。當(dāng)然，我自己也不是完人，我也時不時一整夜都荒廢掉，什么也不做。但我們最后還是回到了正軌，找到了我真正的激情所在。
What is Real Passion? This can be answered by asking what Unreal Passion is. Unreal Passion is lust, it’s based on fickle things like beauty or money and it eventually burns out. If you’re doing a subject because of salaries and titles, your happiness won’t last. Real Passion means putting genuine love into everything you do, even if people tell you it’s stupid and it doesn’t pay well. It may not always be practical but as they say,什么是真正的激情？要回答這個問題你只用弄清楚哪種激情是虛假的。虛假的激情是貪欲，它建立在易變的事物如美貌和錢財?shù)幕A(chǔ)上，最終是會消失的。如果你只是因?yàn)楣べY和頭銜去做一項學(xué)術(shù)研究的話，你的快樂不會持久。真正的激情意味著將真摯的愛投入到你所做的每件事情當(dāng)中去，即使他人說你在做的那件事情多么愚蠢，或即使那件事情報酬十分微薄?；蛟S事實(shí)也并不總是這樣，有個說法是：

Passion has many meanings, but the most crucial part of any kind of passion is desire. It may not be very 'Zen’ of me to say it, but this kind of 'desire’ is different. Here, it is the desire to quench an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, a desire to do the best that we can and a desire to be happy.
I know it isn’t always rainbows and butterflies, sometimes academic life is tough, and full of rough patches. But that’s ok, as long as deep down inside the passion is still there, then you can keep going. If you’re having trouble finding it, try:我知道學(xué)習(xí)的道路并不總是一帆風(fēng)順，有時候?qū)W術(shù)道路是艱難的，崎嶇的。但是只要我們內(nèi)心還充滿著激情，我們便有力量繼續(xù)前行。但如果你似乎覺得激情不再，你可以試試以下的建議：
1. Meditation and reflection. Sometimes we get so caught up in our lives that we leave things that are important but not urgent at the back of our minds. Quiet meditation, even for a few minutes, can help us find the reasons why we chose to be here in the first place and let them generate the passion that we lost from the stress of everyday life.1、冥想和沉思。有時候我們?yōu)樯瞵嵤滤_，卻把那些雖不緊迫但十分重要的事拋在了腦后。就算只是靜靜的沉思數(shù)分鐘，也可以幫助我們找到我們來上大學(xué)的原因，重拾那些因?yàn)樯顗毫Χ鴣G失的激情。
2. Reading. The essays, articles, posts, books and other works of the great experts can be really inspiring. They create goals that you can aim for, maybe even one day surpass. I can guarantee that those people didn’t get there without a dash of Real Passion.
3. Visualisation. Connecting the previous two suggestions, visualisation is a powerful tool. If you can visualise yourself in your dream job, you’re a quarter of the way there already, because you know where you’re going. You can figure out how to get there later. 4. Going home. If it’s possible, going home for a little while (perhaps for one weekend) can really help make you realise how far you’ve come since you left. I went home for the first time in months after leaving for college and I was surprised at how both the same and different everything seemed. Not much had physically changed, my home still smelt like home and even my old room was just as I left it, but I was changed. I had come so far in so little time, I was so amazed, I didn’t want to stop. When I got back I was completely motivated to keep moving forwards.4、回家。 如果可能的話，回一趟家，這樣你就知道自己離家多久，走了多遠(yuǎn)。我在剛上大學(xué)的幾個月后回了一趟家，我當(dāng)時驚訝于一些事物看起來完全變了，而一些事物卻還是老樣子。我的家的擺設(shè)還是沒有改變的，還是那樣充滿家的味道，我的房間也和我離開前一模一樣，但是我變了。我在短時間內(nèi)就走了如此遠(yuǎn)，以至于我自己也感到驚訝，而我卻不曾想停下腳步。當(dāng)我回到家時，我感到自己充滿了前進(jìn)的勇氣。
5. Focus. Sometimes we lose our passion for something because we spread what passion we have over too many commitments. We want to try out new things, make lot’s of friends, fit more things to do into our lives. Most of the time this a good thing, we should make the most out of the opportunities that we get in college, but every now and again being spread to thinly can make us forget where our real passion lies. Bringing it back to what we love best and focussing on that can help recreate the passion we once held for it.5、專注。 有時候我們把自己的激情分成很多份，同時做很多的事情，結(jié)果往往是我們失去了激情。我們想嘗試新鮮的事物，想結(jié)交更多的朋友，為生活注入很多新的元素。這通常是好的，因?yàn)槲覀冋龖?yīng)該好好利用上大學(xué)所賦予我們的契機(jī)。但同時做太多的事做會使我們失去激情?；氐綄ξ覀兯鶡釔鄣氖挛锏膶Ｗ⑸?，我們便能重拾激情。
All being said, it is important to distinguish between temporarily forgotten passion and passion that has died. When it is time to move on, it’s time to move on, and letting go of attachments to once-have’s and what-could-have-been’s can be just as important. Nevertheless, it all boils down to how greatly you need to have passion, how influential it can be and how crucial an ingredient it is in The Recipe for Student Success.
