英語中表示“許多、大量”等的意思的詞或詞組有很多，但有所不同。

    1．修飾可數(shù)名詞的有：

    many, a good/great many, a large/great number of, (quite) a few, scores of, dozens of 等。這些詞或詞組都接名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式，謂語動(dòng)詞也用復(fù)數(shù)形式，但many a也表示“許多”的意思，后接名詞的單數(shù)形式，謂語動(dòng)詞也用單數(shù)形式，例如：

    2．修飾不可數(shù)名詞的有：

    much, a good/great deal of, a large/huge amount of, (quite) a bit of 等。這些詞或詞組接不可數(shù)名詞，后面的謂語動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)形式。

    3．既可以修飾可數(shù)名詞，又可以修飾不可數(shù)名詞的有：

    plenty of, a lot of, lots of, a large/great quantity of, a good supply of，這些詞或詞組接復(fù)數(shù)或不可數(shù)名詞，修飾可數(shù)名詞時(shí)，謂語動(dòng)詞用復(fù)數(shù)；修飾不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)，謂語動(dòng)詞用單數(shù)。但supplies of, (large) quantities of 同樣修飾復(fù)數(shù)或不可數(shù)名詞時(shí)謂語動(dòng)詞用的是復(fù)數(shù)，應(yīng)特別注意。

    除此之外，還有以下幾點(diǎn)要注意：

    1）．a great/good many直接加名詞時(shí)不能加of，而當(dāng)有指定范圍時(shí)可以of the …，例如：

    A good many of the/those students in our class have passed the exam.

    2）．plenty of 前面不加a，而且常用在肯定陳述句中，否定和疑問常用many、much或enough來代替，例如：

    I don’t have much/enough money to buy a new car.

    3）．a lot of和lots of也常用于肯定陳述句中，這與plenty的上述用法相同。
