古代有一位孟先生家中生長有一串葫蘆，藤蔓生長到隔壁結了一個大葫蘆，兩戶人協(xié)商將葫蘆平分，然而，有一個女孩在葫蘆里面，兩家取名為孟姜女，當孟姜女16歲時遇到范喜良兩人結為夫妻，但是在結婚之時，范喜良被兵抓去修建長城，活活累死，孟姜女在冬天思戀丈夫，便去為千里之外的丈夫送衣服，不料丈夫已經死去，她放聲大哭，大海上的波濤將一段長城摧毀，露出一具具骸骨，孟姜女哭了七天七夜，將寒衣燒掉，覆蓋到了白骨之上。
