When: 1952Where: South Korea Who:Dwight D. Eisenhower What:Weeks after being elected President, but months before actually taking office, Eisenhower visited the Korean peninsula to learn how to resolve the stalemate. Why
significant
“Ike’s” reputation as Supreme Allied Leader of the Allies in World War II gave him great credence with the Chinese and North Koreans. He wanted an armistice and when he threatened the use of nuclear weapons unless the Chinese and North Koreans would come to the table, he was taken seriously. An armistice was concluded in June in 1953, but the war was never technically concluded leading to the most militarily fortified boundary in the world between North and South Korea.
